Water Use Restrictions
Last Modified: 12/1/2022 9:54 AM
If you work in or visit any of the following facilities, do not drink water from the water fountains or taps.
- Town Hall
- Northside Gym
- Hargraves Center
- Parks & Rec Admin Building
- Community Center
- Post Office
- Transit Campus
- Public Works Campus
- Public Housing Admin Building
Shortly, a sign like this one will be posted at the:
- Showers
- Drinking fountains
- Kitchen sinks
- Refrigerator water dispensers
- Freezer / ice machines
John Richardson reports that:We will be posting signs that restrict the use of water at the above Town facilities until further notice.
- Please bring in your own water and other liquids when you work in one of those facilities .
- The Town will have bottled water at those facilities where staff typically work. So expect bottle water in the break rooms in Town Hall.
The concern comes from the reduced number of people working in some Town facilities now. The fresh water is sitting in the pipes longer than normal. OWASA tells us that the chemicals that keep our water safe for drinking may lose their strength over time.
We are being cautious and restricting the use of showers, drinking fountains, ice machines and other sources of water in certain Town facilities until we receive further guidance from OWASA.
We also anticipate flushing the water in each facility by opening all endpoints (e.g., showerheads, faucets, drinking fountains, etc.) and letting the water run for an extended period of time. This will help to resupply the lines with fresh water. We are working with OWASA to get clearer guidance on the best way of doing this.
